what is baseline correction?

can somebody help me understanding the concept of baseline correction in UV-VIS Spectrophotometer? why do we need to perform it before taking the absorbance and how often we should perform it?

Baseline correction is removing "backround noise", also known as unnecessary peaks, caused by carbon dioxide, oxygen, impurities in the air etc. Basically it makes your data graphs much better looking.
To do this you just have to run a blank with your solution in it and then subtract it from your actual data (Usually programming will do this). Baseline correction and running of a blank should be done everytime you use the spec.
