i am planning to prepare collagen coated slides for mammalian tissue culture?
does any one know which solvent could be best suited for the collagen to dissolve...and if there is any protocol i wouldnt mind getting that........thank you...

Use 0.01M acetic acid as your solvent to dissolve the collagen to a working concentration of about 10 ug/ml (this is quite a concentrated amount of collagen so you could experiment with different values, but to coat a slide I'd use something between 5 - 20 ug/ml, so 10 ug/ml is a good starting point).
Don't forget to add some calcium and magnesium cations to the solution - you'll need these for the integrins on the cells to adhere to the collagen.
I use about 5mM CaCl2 and 5mM MgCl2.
