TRASCRIPTION:-
In a broader perspective, there is no such division in the process of synthesis of protein which can categorize these two phenomena in terms of their individuality. One is incomplete in the absence of other. If no transcription, there is no translation. Because, the ultimate goal of either of them is to synthesize protein molecules by perfectly copying the amino acid sequence of the parent cells.
In totality, the pathway can be summerized as
DNA---------------->transcription-------------->
------>RNA------------------>protein.
In the process of transcription DNA produces RNA and the genetic informations are transferred into the RNA. This is all about transcription. It is now quite clear how meaningless is the process unless something follows the process of transcription.
TRANSLATION:-
This is the process of protein synthesis from RNA previously formed due to transcription with the formation of peptide bond.
There are obviously some differences lying between the transcription as well as the translation in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The primary transcripts formed by transcription undergo post-transcriptional changes in either type of cells before entering into translation phase. But, in simple terms, this is the entire process of protein synthesis.
We should also keep in mind that during transcription, the entire DNA is not transcribed and the process is highly selective in choosing which fragment of DNA is to be transcribed. The process is controlled by signals from cell to the genome undergoing the change.
