Is mouthwash safe to use with dental work?
I have a newer crown that was placed on April '07. I was just wondering if it was safe to use mouthwash (Mint Scope) with dental work (I.E. My crown).
What about diluted hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash -- is that safe with dental work?
To the "doctor,"
Wouldn't you know, being a "dentist" and all. That hydrogen peroxide is in some toothpaste and is used in the dentail office and over the counter for bleaching of the teeth?
Your crown is covered with a ceramic material that is harder than teeth ...it is actually glass. Mouthwashes will not adversely affect your dental work. Ceramic materials 20 years ago were not as stable as today's ceramics and the older crowns could be affected, but not today.
One of the best mouthwashes is warm mildly salty water and its cheap and very effective ...as effective as any commercial brand. Also, using baking soda as a substitute for toothpaste works great and baking soda and salt both control the growth of bacteria in your mouth.
Just a note: I am not a fan of these whitening techniques ...hydrogen peroxide and bleaches can leave your tooth surfaces more porous, therefore more prone to stain. You shouldn't use them at home as too strong a concentration can cause problems ...use the natural cleaners, like salt water or baking soda.
