Hamilton Bell
Hamilton Bell

Would this be a good trade for all three teams?
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=l4pz8h
Detroit gets: Gerald Wallace, Brendan Wright
Charlotte gets: Rip Hamilton, Corey Maggette
Golden State gets: Raja Bell, Radmanovic
Detroit: they receive two good defenders and slashers.
Charlotte: they got more scoring from Rip and Maggette and they got cap loss
Golden State: More shooters, BUT more better defenders than the ones they have right now. They dump Maggette's bad contract.
BQ: What grade does this trade deserve from both teams?
There is some merit to this trade, but I don't think W's fans would be too happy with it. I'm not sure if the Bobcats' front office would go for it either.
It's true the W's would be getting rid of Maggette and his somewhat bloated contract. $10 mil a year is a lot to pay a sixth man. If Wright wasn't part of the deal, it would be much more palatable. I still think he has a lot of upside, and I wouldn't want to give him up for a 33 yr old Raja Bell and a non-impact player like Vlade. I like Bell's defense, but how many more years does he have to give? The cap space would be nice, but the W's are having a tough time attractig quality FA's, and it would probably get wasted on another marginable player.
I think the deal would help Charlotte, but there are some variables to take into account. Larry Brown has very particular tastes when it comes to players, and I'm not sure if he would want Maggette. He can play multiple positions, but he doesn't give you much D and tends to halt the ball movement. Another thing is that the Bobcats are looking to gain financial flexibility right now, and this trade kind of defeats that purpose.
For Detroit, I really like the trade. Rip is a great player, but he is getting older, and they are going with the youth movement. Wallace is injury prone, but he is an explosive young player that plays both ends of the court. Wright is skinny and a little raw, but he has shown flashes of brilliance. With some good coaching, he could be pretty nice.
Overall, it's not an awful trade, but Wright might be the sticking point along with Magette's big contract for the Bobcats.
Detroit: A
Bobcats: B
Warriors: D+
