What role do you think politicians play or might play in biological research?
I know they can simply fund a whichever project they perfer becos almost all of em have money to. or they can just get in the way and not let any of it happen, but, what other roles do you think they could play here?
Mostly it comes down to government funding. If a politician does not like a specific research he or she will lobby to ensure that that research does not receive enough funding. If it is something near or dear to their hearts they will fund raise and try as hard as they can to get enough money to continue the research. That is really the extent of their role in research.
